The modern game of golf originated during 15th-Century Scotland, where it was banned for a time by James II, who felt the game represented a distraction to Scotsmen who should be practicing archery – a more utilitarian sport. Ironically, this ban was lifted in 1502 by James IV, a direct descendant of James II who had begun to play golf himself.

The Sun Mountain C-130 Cart Bag is a very luxurious cart bag that is only for the most serious of cart golfers. This bag was designed with cart play in mind because all pockets were designed to be forward facing and to be accessible when the bag was mounted to a golf cart. We tried not to pick the same brand for our best stand and cart picks, but we really had no choice with Callaway’s latest product lines. The Callaway Chev is the best golf stand bag for the money right now. It’s light, durable enough, and simply does what you need it to do – carry your clubs comfortably while walking the course and have the stability to stand up in all the situations you’ll end up in while playing.

Expect plenty of functionality in an extremely light and walking-friendly bag with Sun Mountain’s 2017 4.5 LS 14-Way Stand Bag. We all know what can happen to our clubs during walks on the course — they can bang and clank together in the bag, potentially damaging them. Not with this bag as it is highlighted by a 14-way top with full-length dividers. So there a private, protected spot for each of your clubs.
Though I really like this one, there are still some room for improvements here. While it does have a beverage pocket, a small cooler pocket would be preferable to me. I’d also prefer a bag with individual spots for the clubs instead of the 5-way opening and two full length dividers.
Choosing a golf bag comes down to a combination of personal experience, prudence, and taste. Casual players, for example, might gravitate toward a beginner bag that appears compact. While these beginner bags are lighter, they might also force a player to jam several clubs into a cramped compartment. Assuming your clubs are valuable, you’ll want a bag that enables those clubs to be slid in and out without getting damaged.

It’s also nice that this is a very versatile golf bag since it has a base that is compatible with carts. The two full-length dividers are also nice, but could be better.

Golf’s first “Open Championship” took place in Ayrshire, Scotland during 1860. This tournament proved to be such a success that golf subsequently made its way across the Atlantic. The first U.S. country clubs began opening in New York toward the end of the 19th Century. The fact is you don’t want your bag ripping, breaking or leaking at any point, as it may damage your equipment, clubs, clothes or electronics (like a phone or a range finder). The last thing you need is your bag to fall apart in the middle of a round. That happened to me in 2014 when a pocket caught a railing while crossing a bridge and I nearly lost my wallet into a creek. Durability matters!
